COVINGTON, Ga. - Due to the threat of severe weather, all Newton County School System (NCSS) schools and district offices will be closed for students and staff Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12. 

This closing includes all after school events and activities. 

"NCSS leadership staff along with local and state emergency management officials have been monitoring the weather conditions developing ass a result of the hurricane," according to a NCSS statement. "Although the trajectory of the hurricane has changed immensely since first reports, school system officials have opted to close school Monday and Tuesday out of an abundance of caution."

NCSS will continue to monitor conditions Monday and Tuesday and should conditions warrant further closures, parents and staff will be notified. 

NCSS has also announced the cancelation of Tuesday's Newton County Board of Education meeting.
