A proposal to change the Newton County School System’s suspension policy was tabled last week so that board members could discuss the recommended changes more thoroughly.

In December, board member Almond Turner suggested that the board consider changing the current policy which allows students who have been suspended to make up missed work but get no higher than a 70 on that work.

During the January work session the board discussed revising the policy to allow students who had been suspended to make up missed work and receive full credit for it as long as it was completed during the student’s suspension time.

After much discussion board members agreed at their regularly scheduled meeting in January to table the amended policy and discuss it further before making a decision.

The board will meet again on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
