Cicada collectors: Third graders at Piedmont Academy participated in a statewide survey by collecting cicada specimens at the request of the University of Georgia Natural History Museum in Athens. The locusts were shipped last week to Athens. Since this a one-time event every 13 years, the university is charting the locations of the insects.

To participate in the survey, collect six to 12 of the insects, date the container, give the address of the collection site, and freeze the specimens overnight. Prior to shipment, wrap the insects individually in tissue. Ship the insects to Dr. Cecil Smith, UGA, 178 Natural History Bldg., Athens, GA 30602.
