Students of Newton County schools celebrated the start of the upcoming school year at the annual Back 2 School Downtown Covington Block Party on Aug. 1. The block party featured an array of fun activities like face painting, an interactive science show, a free-throw competition hosted by Newton High School’s basketball team and even Lew-e the Clown made an appearance.

Students in attendance had a chance to receive school supplies that included basic items like notebooks, pocket folders, pens, pencils and notebook paper.

The annual event is hosted by Newton READS; Springfield, Harvest and Bethlehem Baptist churches; the Newton County Farm Bureau; Health Department; Sheriff’s Office (CHAMPS program); Water and Sewage Authority; and Hands on Newton.
