Rain washes EHS band at Daytona 500

The Pride of Eastside High School Marching Band almost had the honor of playing at the Daytona 500 recently; the event was rained out.

The NASCAR race was postponed for the following Monday, Feb. 27, due to weather conditions and the band was not able to participate Sunday.

The band was set to play the National Anthem along with other high school marching bands from across the nation.
However, the EHS band was able to play a brief pre-show for fans at the race waiting for the rain to stop.

They opened up with "In the Heat of the Night", a fitting opening number for a high school band from Covington and closed with Eastside's fight song.

"The rain was disappointing, but overall the entire trip ended up being great," band director Alan Fowler said. "I was proud of all the students who participated."
