The 2014-2015 school year opened at Piedmont Academy Monday, August 11, and 39 new students walked the halls for the first time, bringing the school’s total enrollment to 295. There are 108 students in grades K4 through fifth, 69 students in middle school and 118 students in high school.
Twenty-five percent of this year’s student body has Piedmont alumni parents or grandparents. Drawing from a nine-county area, Jasper County represents 42 percent, Newton County represents 25 percent and Butts County represents 29 percent of the student body, an increase of 4 percent from Butts County from the previous school year. Other counties represented in the student body include Rockdale, Baldwin, Putnam, Monroe, Morgan and Jones.
Joining the Piedmony family in PK4 through fifth grade are: Helen Downs, Isaac Lockett, Nicholas Chapko, Carly Maddox, Taylor Maddox, Cotton Young, Ella Satterwhite, Ben Haase, Presley Purser, Marissa Holder, Kaylee Reed, Rep Morton, Drew Maddox, Cassidy Burrell and Ryan Holder.
Piedmont’s new middle school students are: Kayla Fuller, Katherine Haase, Olivia Gibby, Blake Calhoun, Trent Coots, Emma Satterwhite, Rainey Loftin, Kailyn Evans, Logan Conner, Christian Lessington and Meg Collins.
High school students new to the school this year are: Cobrin Burrell, Kylie Garner, Daniel Respess, Caleb VanderVen, Madison Suttles, Maddie Drake, Brock Carter, Summer Conley, Sarah Holland, Austin Sullivan, Jeremiah Dave, and Seth Wiles.
The independent school was founded in 1970 and is entering its 45th year in education. There are 860 alumni who belong to the school’s association.
Piedmont Academy is “accredited with quality” by the Georgia Accrediting Commission, accreditation from Southern Association of Independent Schools and Advanced certified. It is a member of the Georgia Independent School Association.
