Newton County School System is pleased to announce that Newton High School Assistant Principal, Dr. Sandra Owens, has been appointed to the PAGE (Professional Association of Georgia Educators) Board of Directors and will represent the group’s District 11, which is comprised of thirteen counties in east, central Georgia. Owens was selected to fill the unexpired term of Richard Thomas, a Jones County educator who was voted president?elect of PAGE at this summer’s conference. Owens has earned a doctorate degree in Teacher Leadership and is both a National Board Certified Teacher and a Georgia Master Teacher. Her duties as assistant principal at Newton High School include serving as the Program Director of the school’s Academy of Liberal Arts, which partners with Oxford College of Emory University. Owens has been a member of PAGE since 1998 and notes that her membership was instrumental in her professional development as an educational leader. “The various PAGE conferences and workshops provided me opportunities to expand my repertoire of teaching strategies and leadership skills,” said Owens. “In particular, the National Board workshops not only helped me through the process, but also were the catalyst in changing my career path to helping teachers.” Owens became a National Board Facilitator in 2003 and in 2006 became the PAGE SystemRepresentative for Newton County. Prior to joining the administrative staff at Newton High School, Owens served as a teacher and assistant principal at Clements Middle School.
