The athletic programs of Alcovy High School, Eastside High School, and Newton High School have joined together to support public education in Newton County by supporting the Newton County School System Homer Sharp Stadium Brick Program. Homer Sharp Stadium is one the community’s most well?known landmarks. Since its construction in 1956, Newton County’s high school athletes and the fans who cheered them on have made unforgettable memories at Homer Sharp Stadium - memories that reflect the district’s tradition of Spirit, Pride, and Excellence. Now the community has a unique opportunity to not only be a permanent part of that history but also support both the high school athletic programs and the newly established, Newton County Foundation for Educational Excellence at the same time. In recognition of a gift of $30, Newton County Schools will engrave your message on a paver brick, which will become a permanent part of the Homer Sharp Stadium interior landscape. The engraved paver bricks will be located on a raised concrete area inside the Homer Sharp Stadium and the school system will donate all proceeds from the sale of these bricks to the Newton County Foundation for Educational Excellence and the athletic programs of Alcovy, Eastside, and Newton High schools. The sale of brick pavers will begin on the night of the first game of the home season - August 28 - when the Alcovy Tigers take on the Newton Rams at Homer Sharp Stadium, and will continue throughout the high school football season. As a special tribute to the community for overwhelmingly passing the SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) that allowed for the construction of new schools and improvements to the stadium, Newton County School System will host an Open House for the new Field House at Sharp Stadium on Aug. 30 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors may come to Homer Sharp Stadium to see the new Field House, electronic scoreboard and other stadium improvements made possible by the continued support of Newton County residents. Pavers will be available for purchase and replicas of the paver style and a drawing of the installation design will also be on hand. By purchasing a paver, residents can commemorate and pay tribute to a favorite former or current high school athlete, student or educator, or honor a special relative, friend, business or organization, while supporting the Foundation for Educational Excellence and the Newton County high school athletics programs at the same time. Pavers would make a fitting gift to a high school sports enthusiast or memorial for a loved one who has passed away. The brick pavers will be sold for $30 and the donation is tax deductible. Pavers are 4”x8” and may hold up to three lines of text with 14 characters permitted per line. All text will be standard size, font, and style. Greek letters and other symbols not found on a standard keyboard may not be used. Messages will be centered automatically in uppercase letters. Please note that the Newton County School System reserves the right to approve all text prior to production. Pavers may be purchased with cash, check, or money order at any Alcovy, Eastside, or Newton home football game at Sharp Stadium. Order forms may also be downloaded from the Newton County School System website at www.newtoncountyschools.org and mailed to: Newton County School System Homer Sharp Stadium Brick Program, Attention: Ms. Peggy Bullard Business Manager P.O. Box 1469 Covington, GA 30015. If placing an order by mail, please do not send cash.
