Newton County Schools will recognize School Bus Safety this week.

The Board of Education adopted a resolution to recognize Oct. 21 through 25 as School Bus Safety Week at its work session,Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Mike Barr, director of support services for the NCSS, said School Bus Safety Week will serve as a reminder to motorists of the importance of stopping and exercising patience when the red flashing lights are activated and the stop arm is extended on a school bus.

Barr said in conjunction with School Bus Safety Week this year, the NCSS department safety team will kick off a safety program at Heard-Mixon Elementary School at 10 a.m. Oct. 22.

“All students at the school will participate in the program. The program that we are using was originally developed by Forsyth County Schools and meets the requirements of the Georgia Department of Education’s School Bus Safety Curriculum,” Barr said.
