JROTC essay and achievement winners honored

The annual JROTC awards ceremony was held on Thursday, March 24, at Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge No. 6.
East Side Scottish Rite President Michael H. Wilson was happy with the attendance and and said, "We are proud of our community, proud of our students in our high schools and look forward each year to recognizing outstanding JROTC Cadets on the east side of Atlanta".

Winners were chosen for the Outstanding Achievements and Essays:

Heritage High School, Cadet, Canecia Gordon
Salem High School, Cadet, Sabriyya Ariel Willis
Rockdale High School, Cadet Dwain J.D. Hebert
Loganville High School, Cadet Desmon A. Watson
Monroe Area High School, Cadet, Brian J. Leeper
Walnut Grove High School, Cadet, Dakota C. Proffitt
Social Circle High School, Cadet Sammul McDaniel
Newton County High School, Cadet Jamal Green

All the award recipients received medals and award certificates from Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, letters of achievement from Governor Nathan Deal and Georgia flags and letters of achievement from Secretary of State Brian P. Kemp presented by Clay Newman. All cadets received scholarships from the east side Scottish Rite Association with Cadet Brian J. Leeper of Monroe Area High School receiving the Cadet of Year from the east side Scottish Rite Association.

After the presentation of awards and scholarships to the Junior ROTC honor cadets, Ambassador Roger Wise gave some words of wisdom to the junior cadets on the topic of leadership.
