Interact Club receives American flag

A patriotic project has earned the Eastside High School Interact Club a flag that was flown over an Afghan battlefield.

The 50-member club sent 525 Christmas cards before the holidays to troops serving overseas. In return, they received the flag and a certificate from a Marine unit in Afghanistan. The flag was dedicated to the club and was certified to have flown over the battlefield on President's Day in February.

Interact Club is a Rotary-based club that participates in community service projects including Special Olympics and sponsoring families at Christmas.

The cards include the school e-mail address and the soldiers usually reply through e-mail, according to a release.
