Sidney and Gloria Nicholson made it to their first Grandparents Day Friday but not from a lack of effort.

"They never told us," Sidney said. "They told us this year, and we packed up and came."

The couple traveled from Tallahassee, Fla. to eat lunch with their grandson Justice, a third grader at East Newton Elementary School, which had grandparent activities all week.
"It's great. We love it," Sidney said.

On the other side, Dolores Dodson has become a pro at grandparents day, and she needs to be as she has five granddaughters, including a first grader, second grader, third grader and two fourth graders.
"It can be a little overwhelming," Dodson said. "It's very interesting and keeps me busy."

Plus, her granddaughter Riley McGiboney, the third grader, said it was a lot of fun having grandma around.

While the Nicholson's traveled all the way from Florida, Jim and Sandra Tudor, better known as Poppy and Granny, had their grandchild Bailey Love, come to them.

Bailey's father is in the military, so the family has traveled a lot over the years, including New Jersey, Texas and elsewhere in Georgia.

"It's exciting that they're here," Jim Tudor said. "It's important to take the time to do this."
