High schools host summer transitioning program

Incoming freshmen will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with high school before the school year begins on Aug. 4 by attending a summer transition program.

On July 28-29, students will be able to attend a program at Newton, Eastside or Alcovy high schools that has been developed to help ease the transition from middle to high school.

Students will be able to meet with teachers, administrators and counselors, helping them to develop early relationships with their peers from other middle schools while learning to navigate the ninth grade, according to a press release from the Newton County School System.

Brochures were sent home with students at the end of the year. Should parents need an extra one they can visit the school system website at www.newtoncountyschools.org or request one by emailing summerbridge@newton.k12.ga.us.

The program will begin at 7:45 a.m. each day and last until 2:30 p.m. Transportation is not provided, but lunch will be served.
