GPTC celebrates National Poetry Month

Poets are cordially invited to attend the Fourth Annual Poetry Contest in honor of National Poetry Month at the East Metro Atlanta Christian Writers meeting on Saturday, April 14 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Newton Campus, Building D & Conference Center located at 8100 Bob Williams Parkway in Covington.

National Poetry Month is a celebration of poetry first introduced in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States.

Original poems will be read or recited by the poet during the event and judged by the audience. The prestigious "People's Choice Award" will be presented to the winner at noon.

Entrants must be at least eighteen years old and may submit two poems of no more than 20 lines on any subject, single spaced, and in any form, provided that the content of the poem is not vulgar or offensive, does not contain profanity, and is the original, individual work of the entrant.

Entrants retain copyright on his/her own individual work. Mail entries to EMACW, PO Box 2896, Covington, GA 30015 postmarked by Thursday, April 12. Include a cover sheet containing major title and subtitles, author's name, full address, phone and e-mail. "Contest Entry" should be clearly indicated on both the outer envelope and the cover sheet. Entrants will be contacted prior to the event to advise approval and program agenda.
