Junior firefighters: To prepare for "Fire Prevention Week" during the week of Oct. 3-9, Piedmont Academy students in pre-school and kindergarten had a special visit by the Jasper County Fire Department on Tuesday. The firefighter explained the importance of having a family fire safety plan, what to do if their home were to catch on fire and who to call, as well as "stop, drop and roll." The firefighter was dressed in their fireman's suit for the students and explained all the "bells and whistles" associated with their attire along with the tools they use to fight a fire. Afterwards, the students were given a demonstration of lights and sirens of the fire truck and the many different types of calls firefighters handle every day. At the conclusion of the program, the students were given "Junior Fire Fighter" badges and fire helmets. Several students wore red shirts in honor of firefighters and the students were given "fire truck" cheek cheer tattoos.
