Students at Fairview Theme School recently collected more than 1,000 letters and items for troops stationed in Afghanistan and Iraq, thanks to Operation Sandbox.

There was a contest for most letters brought in, which was won by Mrs. Carpenter's second grade class (31 letters), and for most items collected, which was won by third graders in Mrs. Drunheller's class, who collected 337 items.

Virginia Pearson of Operation Sandbox spoke to the schoolchildren to open the drive, and items were collected over two weeks.
