East Side Scottish JROTC awards honors local students

The annual East Side Scottish JROTC awards ceremony was held Thursday, March 22 at Golden Fleece Masonic Lodge.

East Side Scottish Rite President Joel Knight was happy with the attendance and said, "We are proud of our community, proud of our students in our high schools and look forward each year to recognizing outstanding JROTC Cadets on the East Side of Atlanta."

Award winners chosen for the Outstanding Achievements and Essays were as follows:
De'Asha Watts from Newton High School, Deanna L. Holmes from Salem High School, Joseph Kim from Heritage High School, Benjamin Smart from Rockdale County High School, Jed D. Wheeler from Loganville High School, Erin N. Mast from Monroe Area High School, Andrew P. Deems from Walnut Grove High School, Anna Greene Social Circle High School and Benjamin Augustus Scoggin from Morgan County High School.

All the afore-mentioned reward recipients received medals and award certificates from ancient and accepted Scottish Rite, Letters of Achievement from Gov. Nathan Deal and Georgia Flags and Letters of Achievement from Secretary of State Brian P. Kemp, presented by Clay Newman.

All cadets received scholarships from the East Side Scottish Rite Association with Cadet Benjamin August Scoggin of Morgan County High School receiving the Cadet of Year from the East Side Scottish Rite Association.
