Darton College

Nicholas Green of Covington was awarded the Dean Scholar Award at Darton College for the 2011/2012 academic year. This is an academic scholarship awarded to incoming freshmen that have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and have shown evidence of community and school involvement.

Young Harris College

Young Harris College announced its Dean’s List for Fall Semester 2011.

Rebecca Dianne Armstrong, a senior at Young Harris College, is a graduate of Newton High School. She is the daughter of Tony and Tammie Armstrong of Covington.

Kayla Renee Jones, a junior at Young Harris College, is a graduate of Eastside High School. She is the daughter of Mike and Barbara Jones of Covington.

Robert Payton McKinnon, a junior at Young Harris College, is a graduate of Young Americans Christian School. He is the son of John McKinnon and Katherine Basham of Oxford.

Tara Lynn Shiver, a senior at Young Harris College, is a graduate of Newton High School. She is the daughter of Roy Shiver of Covington and Kim Boyd of Conway, S.C. 

Virginia Tech University

Sharon M. Hillman of Covington was named to the Dean’s List at Virginia Tech for the spring 2011 semester. Hillman is a freshman majoring in political science in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Oxford College

Ralston Medouze of Covington, son of Ralph Medouze and Karen Medouze and Christopher Parkinson of Oxford, son of John C. Parkinson and Rhonda M. Parkinson were named to the Honor’s List at Oxford College.

Emory University

Brittany Mayo of Covington, daughter of Timothy Lane Mayo and Tammie Renea Mayo were named to the Honor’s list at Emory University.
