Newton County's newest elementary school will officially get a name next month. BOE members are pouring over seven pages of suggested names for elementary school No. 14, which is located on Kirkland Road and will make their final decision at the Jan. 20 meeting.

"We would ask that board members narrow their selection from this list and others to six names and on the 20th, the board will take action in naming the new elementary school," said Superintendent R. Steven Whatley.

The BOE enlisted the help of the community in the naming of elementary school No. 14. Interested individuals needed only to suggest a name and the reason for the name to be considered. The school system received more than 130 suggestions.

Suggested names include Arbor Crossing, Barak Obama, Carroll O'Connor, Covington, Crossroads, Deerwood, Diversify, Ever Green, Freedom, Harvard, Hillside, Kirkland, Pinelands, Star, Shoal Creek, Valley, and Windy Hill elementary.
