The Newton County Board of Education approved Tuesday evening school Superintendent, Dr. Steve Whatley’s proposed revisions to the current school calendar to accommodate the makeup of the February 12 snow day.

As a result of the snow day, the Thursday, March 18 early dismissal day for professional learning will now be a full day of attendance for students. The student holiday originally scheduled for the following day, March 19 will now be an early dismissal day for students; teachers will remain at school after early dismissal for an afternoon teacher work day.

The February 12 snow day will now serve as a furlough day for teachers and the June 2 furlough day will now be converted back to a teacher work day.

The revised calendar and revised employee work calendars will be posted in the calendar section of the Newton County School System website at http://newtoncountyschools.org/schools/calendars.asp.
