Applications available for Head Start program

McIntosh Trail Early Childhood Development Council Inc. is accepting applications for Head Start and pre-k programs for the 2011-2012 school year in Newton County.

The Head Start program is for children who have turned 3 or 4 by Sept. 1, 2011. Pre-K is for children who have turned 4 by Sept. 1, 2011. Children with disabilities are given priority.

Head Start is a free program and participants must meet federal guidelines. The program offers a variety of services, including nutrition, health, mental health, education, social services and parent involvement.

Pre-kindergarten is a free program with no income guidelines.
Applications may be picked up at the Department of Family and Children Services, Health Departments and WIC programs and at program offices.

Applications are required to have the following information: Income verification (1040, paystub, W2), birth certificate, medical card (Medicaid, Peachcare or private insurance), Immunization Certificate (form 3231), Social Security card.
