To date, 50 out of approximately 300 seniors have been offered 69 scholarships totaling $2,148,543. A total of 18 different colleges and universities from nine states contributed to this year’s class total. Presently, they have accepted $1,978,343 of that amount. This includes all types of scholarships, such as academic, athletic, military and merit-based offers. This does not include the HOPE scholarship, which is calculated separately. The class total also includes 31 local scholarships donated through 21 different organizations totaling over $32,000.
Students who were offered three or more scholarships include: Tequilla Gray, Kimberly Rary and Mary Wright.
Russell Oliveri had the highest scholarship total with over $150,000 in scholarship offers. He plans to enroll in either St. Mary’s University or Southern Polytechnic University in the fall. Mary Wright, Alcovy High’s salutatorian, had the second highest scholarship total with over $82,000 in offers. This includes a full tuition scholarship to the University of Alabama, where she plans to enroll this fall. Tequilla Gray also received $82,000 in scholarship offers. She plans to attend Wesleyan College. Kimbery Rary is Alcovy High School’s Class of 2009 valedictorian and STAR student. She received five local scholarships and plans to attend the University of Georgia, where she has been accepted into the Honors Program.
These outstanding seniors, along with many others, were honored Thursday, May 7, at Alcovy High School’s Honors Night program.
