Spectacular sketch: Aaron Cole, 9th grade student at Newton High School, received a first place award in the 8th District of the Congressional Art Competition with a work called "Aristotle." His art teacher is Kandi Manning. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. More than 650,000 students have been involved with the nationwide competition. The winner of this year’s competition is eligible for a $5,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design. The students work will hang in the Cannon House Tunnel along with other winners from around the country.
