Students and parents may now be able to plan their trips and vacations for next school year, as an official calendar for the 2014-15 school year has been approved.
The Newton County Board of Education at its Tuesday meeting approved the official calendar for the 2014-15 school year, which has students reporting back to school on Friday, Aug. 1.
According to the approved calendar, all schools will be closed for the Sept. 1 for the Labor Day holiday; students will have a Fall Break October 20-24; a Thanksgiving Break is scheduled for November 24-28; and a holiday break is set for Dec. 22 through Jan. 2, 2015.
Because Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 is a teacher work day, students will report back for the second semester of on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015. Additional, schools will be closed Jan. 19, 2015 for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
School system officials said three inclement weather days are built into the school calendar. If they are not needed, students will have a mid-Winter Break February 12, 13, and 16, 2015. Spring Break is scheduled for April 6 - 10, 2015.
The last day of school for students is set for May 22, 2015.
