Criminals steal McDonalds charity box

 Newton County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call Dec. 9 at the McDonald’s restaurant on Crowell Road after employees discovered a charity coin collection box had been stolen and another had been damaged.

 According to the report, the boxes, which were located in the drive–through window, were stolen between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. The value of each box is estimated to be about $100.

Woman arrested

at Wal-Mart

 Officers at the Covington Police Department arrested a woman Dec. 10 for stealing items from the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Industrial Boulevard.

 According to an incident report, Raven Russell grabbed a coat and a purse, removed the tags, dressed in the pieces and filched additional items, which she put in the stolen bag.

 The stolen items were returned to Wal-Mart. Russell was arrested and charged with shoplifting.

Divine protection

 Members at Newton Baptist Church didn’t know why their church’s roof was leaking, that was until they discovered it was caused by a bullet hole.

 According to the incident report, the roof began leaking between Nov. 23 and Nov. 30. When the contractor checked the roof Dec.9 for the source of the leak, the bullet hole was discovered.

 Currently, no suspects have been indentified.
