UPDATE: Ingles shooter arrested

Update (May 30, 11:40 a.m.): CPD Spokesman Allen Seebaran said Swiney was apprehended after attempting to break into a residence shortly before 11 a.m. today.

According to Seebaran, a citizen on Capes Drive called police after seeing Swiney attempt to break into the home. When officers responded, Swiney was reportedly walking down the street. After seeing the police, he attempted to hide behind a tree, but was spotted by officers and taken into custody without incident. He was unarmed when he was caught, but police found his firearm in the area.

Seebaran said Swiney is currently being questioned by CPD detectives. After questioning, he will be transferred to the Newton County Jail.

COVINGTON, Ga. – The Covington Police Department (CPD) is actively looking for a man who shot his wife inside the Ingles on Turner Lake Road this morning.

According to CPD Spokesman Allen Seebaran, Jimquez Swiney, 33, approached his wife shortly after 8 a.m. in the deli area of the store and shot her once in the arm. Seebaran described the shooting as domestic related. The victim, an Ingles employee, was transported to a local trauma center.

Seebaran said after the shooting, Swiney on fled on foot from the rear of the building into the woods behind the shopping center. CPD is currently searching the woods and the surrounding area.  Detectives are interviewing eyewitnesses and also trying to determine if video of the incident is available.

Swiney is described as a black male, 5’7” to 5’10” in height, weighing 185 lbs. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and brown colored jeans.

Seebaran said CPD considers Swiney to be armed and dangerous and if you see him,  do not approach him. Contact law enforcement immediately.
