Students charged with making threats in separate incidents

COVINGTON, Ga. – Authorities investigated and charged two Newton County students with making terroristic threats in separate incidents this week.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a Liberty Middle School student was charged Dec. 10 after school a school administrator was told about a concerning statement the student had allegedly made. The administrator notified law enforcement and the sheriff’s office conducted a thorough investigation resulting in the charge.

On Dec. 12 a 16-year-old male Alcovy High School student was charged after allegedly posting a threatening photo on social media. After a law enforcement investigation, the student was charged. The student was reportedly not at school when he was charged.

Newton County School System Director of Public Relations Sherri Davis said Wednesday about the Alcovy High incident, "School administrators were made aware of a social media post that was a cause of concern. Out of an abundance of caution, the information was reported to local law enforcement. In addition to possible criminal charges the student will be disciplined for violating the student code of conduct.”
