COVINGTON, Ga. – Authorities charged two female students with disorderly conduct Monday morning after a fight at Newton High School. One of the students was also charged with bringing a knife to school.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, school resource officers and administrators responded to a report of the fight at 8:05 a.m. Dec. 10 and separated the students, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old.

The fight reportedly stemmed from weekend social media posts and an ongoing disagreement between the two. The knife was not used in the fight but authorities were made aware that the student had brought it to school.

There were no injuries in the fight. Both students were charged with disorderly conduct. Additionally, the 16-year-old was charged with having a weapon in a school safety zone.

Newton County School System Public Relations Director Sherri Davis said in addition to possible legal charges, the students involved will be disciplined for violating the student code of conduct.
