Shot fired in shoe robbery
Newton County Sheriff's Office

COVINGTON, Ga. – Investigators with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office are looking for the robber who fired a shot as he robbed a father and son of a pair Nike Air Jordan sneakers at gunpoint Sunday evening.

According to a NCSO incident report, deputies responded to an address on Pebble Brooke Boulevard at around 8:15 p.m. June 24 on a report of an armed robbery. A NCSO spokesman said the victim and his father were going to sell the shoes to the suspect via the Offer Up online retail seller site.

The spokesman said there were no injuries in the incident. The victim told deputies he thought the suspect fired at least one shot into the ground.

Sheriff’s office investigator Jeff Alexander told The Covington News people looking to sell via online retail seller sites should make transactions in a public place.

“Best advice would be to make these types of transactions at a very public place during as regular hours as possible,” he said. “Also make attempts to get some sort of identity on the person you are meeting with.

“Personal safety should always be of the utmost consideration in this type of transaction.”

Alexander said the sheriff’s office is actively working the case.
