According to a press release from GPSTC, the training includes the observation techniques involved in recognizing when a driver may be operating a vehicle under the influence of intoxicants. The officers were taught patterns of driver behavior and the more common driving errors committed by drivers under the influence.

They were also taught safe methods for stopping and approaching a suspect driver and the observations to make to determine if a driver is intoxicated, along with the proper manner to administer a field sobriety test.

According to the release, funding for the program is provided by the State of Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
