COVINGTON, Ga. – Covington police are looking for whoever attempted to steal one car and maybe stole another at an apartment complex this weekend.

According to a CPD incident reports, an officer responded to the Wellington Ridge Apartments just before 9 a.m. Saturday on an entering auto report. When he got to the scene, he spoke with the victims who said when they walked out to their vehicle, a white 2001 Ford Escape, they found the driver’s side window partially rolled down.

The victims told police when they looked inside the vehicle, they noticed that the panel under the steering wheel was in the passenger side floorboard and the wires under the steering column were exposed. According to the report, they were unsure if any of the wires had been cut while somebody tried to hotwire the vehicle but were unable to get it started.

There was reportedly nothing missing from the car.

About five hours later, an officer was dispatched to the same complex on a report of a vehicle theft. According to the report, the victim told police when he came out to get into his white 2002 Chevrolet Express Van G3, it was missing. The van reportedly has a large rust stain on its top.

Apartment personnel advised the vehicle had not been towed.
