One shot in Sunday evening drive-by

COVINGTON, Ga. - Investigators with the Newton County Sheriff's Office are looking into a drive-by shooting incident that sent an 18-year-old Newton County man to the hospital.

According to the incident report, Deputy Avery Williams was dispatched to Mountain View Circle March 31 around 9 p.m. in reference to a male being shot. 

NCSO Deputy Michael Gregg told The Covington News the victim had a gunshot wound to his right hip area and according to the incident report he was transported to Piedmont Newton Hospital. 

The victim reportedly described the car involved in the drive-by incident as an SUV, but no further description was available.

Gregg told The News the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
