COVINGTON, Ga. – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy injured on a call and airlifted to an Atlanta hospital Saturday.

A press release from NCSO spokesman Investigator Jeff Alexander identified the injured deputy as Moedjirah Vandelisle. Alexander said Vandelisle has been with NCSO for about one year.

Alexander identified the suspect in the incident as 38-year-old Karen Anders. According to the NCSO website, Anders remains in the Newton County Jail on $15,000 bond after she was booked July 8 on charges of felony aggravated assault and felony obstruction of law enforcement.

According to the release, Vandelisle responded to a call for assistance in reference to a suicide attempt. Upon her arrival, she became involved in a physical altercation in which she was injured and required immediate medical treatment.
