Mansfield woman charged in 2016 accident

COVINGTON, Ga. – A Newton County Grand Jury has indicted a Mansfield woman in a December 2016 motor vehicle crash that resulted in a death.

According to a bench warrant, Taylor Leeann Chriswell, 29, is charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle in the second degree and failure to yield right of way.

She was booked into the Newton County Jail June 7 and bonded out.

Alcovy Circuit District Attorney Layla Zon told The Covington News the special presentment to the Grand jury June 1 came after an investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Accident Reconstruction Team into the Dec. 3, 2016 crash that claimed a life.

"Charges were recently taken and this case has not been adjudicated," GSP's public information officer said. "This case is not releasable but it has been completed by SCRT."
