COVINGTON, Ga. – Two handguns were reported stolen to Covington Police Department (CPD) yesterday, one day after daytime thieves targeted two pick-up trucks parked at shopping centers along Highway 278.

According to a CPD report, a Monticello man contacted police Sept. 20 to report that his truck had been broken into Sept. 19 around 3:30 p.m. while it was parked outside El Chaparro at 6193 Hwy 278. The victim told police the truck was locked but somebody was able to punch the lock and take a Springfield XD 9mm handgun and a PSE Evolve 31 Bow.

Police also met with a Covington man Wednesday who reported his 2014 F250 had been broken into sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sept. 19 while it was parked at Lendmark Financial Services at 9198 Hwy 278 NE. The truck’s owner told police entry was made by breaking into the lock, damaging the truck. A Glock 9mm, G26 pistol was reportedly stolen in the incident.
