Guns reported stolen out of disabled car

COVINGTON, Ga. – Authorities are investigating after two pistols were reported stolen out of a disabled car early Monday.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a man went to NCSO’s West Side Precinct and told deputies he left his red Chevrolet Malibu parked on the side Highway 81 near Livingston Elementary School with a flat tire at around 1 a.m. March 18.

The man said when he returned five hours later with a spare tire, his Taurus 9mm and MasterPiece Arms 5.7x28mm pistols were missing. The guns were reportedly in a yellow book bag on the passenger seat of the car. According to the report, the man told deputies the book bag and ammunition were not taken.
