GSP seeks help in fatal Newton County hit and run

COVINGTON, Ga. – The Georgia State Patrol is asking for the public’s help identifying the vehicle and driver involved in a fatal hit and run crash in Newton County last month.

According to a GSP press release, troopers say the unknown vehicle was traveling east on Hazelbrand Road near McMahan Road Aug. 18 when it struck a pedestrian in the eastbound lane.

The pedestrian, identified as 52-year-old Patricia Ann McGuire of Covington, died at the scene.

The exact time of the crash is unknown, but troopers believe it occurred between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. 

The make and model of the vehicle is also unknown but authorities say it is likely a truck, SUV, van or other vehicle with high ground clearance.
