Driver assaulted at red light

COVINGTON, Ga. – A Mansfield man was assaulted at a Covington intersection Tuesday after an unknown male tried to take a tool out of the back of his truck.

According to a Covington Police Department (CPD) incident report, the victim was in his truck on Old Atlanta Highway May 2 at 12:58 p.m. attempting to turn left onto Emory Street heading north. He reportedly told police that while he was at the light, a flat black, four-door sedan, possibly an Infiniti, pulled up in front of him from Emory Street.

The driver of the car reportedly exited the vehicle and tried to take an impact wrench out of the back of the victim’s truck. According to the report, the victim exited his truck and grabbed his tools from the male. 

According to the report, the man started to fight, with the driver of the black car punching the victim in the face, causing his nose to bleed. The victim reportedly fought his assailant off and the male got back into his vehicle and drove off. He is reportedly described as a light-skinned black male, approximately in his 30s with a low haircut. He was reportedly wearing a gray t-shirt.

According to the report, the victim refused EMS treatment. According to the report, he told police that he had no knowledge of who hit him.
