Crash claims two lives early Tuesday

UPDATE (July 5, 11:40 a.m.): A sheriff’s office spokesperson said Mitchell Nicholson, Jr., of Covington, was traveling eastbound on Covington Bypass Road in a 2008 Ford F-250 when he lost control the vehicle. According to the spokesperson, alcohol could have played a part in the accident but that has not been verified. 

Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said both victims were wearing seatbelts.

COVINGTON, Ga. - A man and a woman were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies responded to the report of the crash on the Covington Bypass east of Lower River Road at 12:44 a.m. July 3.

Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis identified the two people killed as 38-year-old Mitchell Nicholson, Jr., of Covington, and 30-year-old Jill Timberman, of Tucker.

Davis said the victims had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency personnel. He said they were pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries received during the crash.
