Cash, cigarettes stolen during burglary at gas station

COVINGTON, Ga. – Thieves made off with cash and cigarettes early Monday morning after breaking into a gas station on the county’s west side.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office incident report, a deputy responded to a burglar alarm at Chapman’s Convenience located at 5590 Highway 81 at 3:16 a.m. Jan. 22. When he got to the scene, he reportedly found that someone had forced entry into the store.

A NCSO spokesman said a case of mixed carton cigarettes was stolen, along with cash from the register and gaming machines.
