UPDATE: Victim identified in Saturday murder

UPDATE (Jan. 9, 2:30 p.m.): Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis has confirmed the victim in Saturday's murder as Daniel Lopez Antonio, 27, of Covington. 

According to Newton County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Deputy Favel Edwards, the cause of death was from a gunshot wound and the manner of death is ruled a homicide.

Antonio lived at the location where the incident took place. 

NCSO Deputy Stephen Bartlett reported observing the victim on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the face, according to the NCSO incident report.

UPDATE (Jan. 7, 8:10 a.m.): An arrest has been made in the Saturday afternoon murder on Russell Drive in Covington. 

Miguel Angel Garcia-Martinez, 32, of Conyers, was arrested and charged with pointing or aiming gun or pistol at another, possession of firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault and murder. 

"The only info being released about the arrest is that probable cause was established through the preliminary investigation to obtain an arrest warrant," Newton County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Sgt. Cortney Morrison said. "Investigation is ongoing. No info being released on victim at this time."

Garcia-Martinez will have a first appearance in the Newton County Jail courtroom Monday morning in front of Judge Melanie Bell.

COVINGTON, Ga. - Around 2:30 p.m. today, Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies got a call at 20 Russell Drive reporting a person shot. When they arrived, deputies found a male deceased. 

During the course of the investigation, they obtained information and they have two people of interest in custody that are currently being interviewed. 

They reportedly believe they have the shooter. 

Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis confirmed he is working a scene on Russell Drive. It is an active investigation and he could not provide any further comment.
