COVINGTON, Ga. – The reported boyfriend of a Newton County mother found under a bridge near Oxford last summer has been arrested and charged in her murder.

James Gary Hill, 25, was arrested by investigators with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday in the August death of 27-year-old Kelly Marshall.

Marshall’s body was found Aug. 12 by deputies responding to a suspicious call in the 200 block of Mount Tabor Road.

NCSO spokesperson Sgt. Cortney Morrison said investigators working the case collected enough evidence to establish probable cause to charge Hill with Marshall’s murder.

Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said in December an autopsy on Marshall determined the manner of her death to be homicide and the cause of death asphyxia.

Morrison did not release any details or evidence concerning the death.

Hill was jailed in Walton County Aug. 13 charged with a traffic violation and fleeing/eluding police.

Hill is currently in the Newton County Jail charged with murder and concealing the death of another.

Morrison said he will shortly be returned to Smith State Prison in Glennville in Tattnall County. According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, his incarceration began there on Dec. 14.
