COVINGTON, Ga. - Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes encourages the community to rally around the Covington Police Department after Monday's officer-involved shooting. 

"Newton County and our entire community is behind the Covington Police Department after one of its officers was shot in the line of duty Monday," he said. "I am praying for officer Matt Cooper and all the officers that keep our home safe. Please join me in lifting this young man and his family up with our thoughts and prayers. We are 'OneNewton,' when one of us is down the rest can pick them up."
