Covington's Kiwanis and Rotary clubs met in a joint session on Tuesday with a guest speaker, Georgia Supreme Court Justice P. Harris Hines of Marietta. According to Judge Hines, the most pressing problem facing Georgia is the rise in the number of single-parent households. Children in single-parent households are at risk for poverty and for ending up in the court system. "It hurts your heart. It's extremely expensive," he said. Four Newton County Superior Court judges attended the meeting. Attendees included (left to right): Judge Horace Johnson Jr., Judge John Ott, Judge Hines, Judge Ken Wynne and Judge Samuel Ozburn.
