MANSFIELD, Ga. - By the narrowest of margins, voters in Mansfield appear to have approved Sunday by the drink beer and wine sales in the city.

According to unofficial results provided by Election Superintendent Jeana Hyde, voters approved the measure by a 51-50 vote while a referendum on Sunday package sales of beer and wine was approved by an unofficial 55-46 margin.

In the races to fill two open, unexpired city council posts, Julian “Austin” Mitchell garnered 74 votes to fill the seat vacated by Bret Dunn last month. Mitchell ran unopposed.

According to unofficial vote totals in the race for the Post 3 seat vacated by Ashlan Troutman (Webb) last fall, Blair H. Northen III bested Leon S. Walton, Jr. 69 votes to 33 votes.

Hyde said 102 of Mansfield’s 284 registered voters went to the polls for the special election.
