Dogs have their day from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday as the Newton County Humane Society sponsors its annual Downtown Covington Mutt Show on the square.
Decked-out dogs can compete in the Best Dressed competition that in past years has drawn canines clothed as bikers in leather jackets and caps, Georgia Bulldog wanna-bees and tail-wagging Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket boosters, a would-be dancing dog in a tutu and pups dressed up for Halloween, according to Betty Bellairs of the Humane Society.
"We’ve had just about everything," she said.
Other categories include Most Like Owner, Best Kisser, Most Beautiful, Most Handsome, Most Obedient and Best Trick.
The event has been staged for about 15 years and attracts 25 to 60 entries.
"The idea behind it is to let people know about the Humane Society and just to have fun," Bellairs said.
The event is free and registration will be held at 9 a.m. Donations are accepted and all dogs must be on a leash.
