Keith Newcomer and his son Christopher were killed in a plane crash last week near the Monticello airport; a memorial service is being held in their honor at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Covington Municipal Airport. The service is open to the public.

Keith was a member of the Covington chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, according to an e-mail from fellow member Emory Geiger.

"With so little in the news about it, I fear many of Keith's friends may not be aware of what happened. He had many friends in the Covington area," Geiger said.

According to an article in the California-based Times-Standard, Keith was part owner of a furniture store in Arcata, Calif. and had flown to visit his son, who lives in Georgia. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.

A funeral service for Christopher took place this morning in Winder, the funeral service for Keith will be Oct. 31st in Arcata.
