Newton County Schools are open Thursday after being closed for predicted inclement weather Wednesday.
Wednesday evening the winter weather advisory was lifted for Newton County, and the Newton County School System announced on its Facebook page that it had decided to reopen schools.
"Because students and employee safety is our primary concern, we will be monitoring road conditions throughout the night and early morning hours," the message said.
NCSS said it would send a follow-up School Messenger Thursday morning between 5 and 6 a.m. Any change in school status will also be posted on our Facebook and Twitter pages and.
The Newton County offices are scheduled for a delayed opening at 10 a.m. Thursday due to the potential inclement weather. The Newton County criminal jury trial in Judge Wynne's courtroom, and Judge Ozburn's criminal court day will also begin at 10 a.m.
Georgia Piedmont Technical College will reopen Thursday at 10 a.m.
On Wednesday Newton and Rockdale schools were closed, along with Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Social Circle schools closed at 2 p.m.
Both Newton and Rockdale counties were closed Wednesday afternoon.
