The judges of the Superior Court of Newton County announce the appointment of Sheri Capes Roberts as the Judge of the Juvenile Court of Newton County to succeed Judge Billy J. Waters, beginning Jan. 1.

Roberts will serve a term of four years. She has been a member of the Georgia Bar since 1992. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Georgia. Her law practice included a focus on family and juvenile law. She has also worked with and trained personnel at various Departments of Family and Children Services in this area.

Roberts is a former Special Assistant Attorney General and has represented the Department of Family and Children Services and Child Support Recovery. She has a strong background in business management and as an administrator. She is a former member of the board of the Covington YMCA, Red Cross and Project ReNewal and is a past president of the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce and the Newton County Bar Association.

Roberts is the daughter of Dr. Johnny and Peggy Capes. She is married to Matt Roberts and lives in Newton County. She will be sworn in at a ceremony to be held in December.

"We are very pleased to announced Ms. Roberts as our next juvenile judge," said Chief Judge John Ott. "I was impressed with the high level of qualifications of all the candidates who applied. It was a tough decision to make considering the other candidates, but I am confident that Ms. Roberts will make an excellent juvenile judge whose main concern is the best interests of the children of Newton County."
