Birthday celebrations : The Sergeant Newton Chapter of the National Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution (NDSAR) celebrated Georgia Day and the chapter’s own 114th birthday with a luncheon at the Oaks Course on Feb. 11. Several members of the George Walton SAR Chapter, the John Clarke DAR Chapter as well as several officers of the Georgia State Society SAR joined the celebration as well.

Grace Callaway received an award from the Sergeant Newton Chapter as the winner of the American History Essay Contest. She is a fifth grade student at Ficquett Elementary School and daughter of Sergeant Newton member Claudia Callaway and granddaughter of Sergeant Newton member Mary Gene Elliott. Mandy McCullough, Georgia Regional Tourism director, gave a talk at the meeting on "Local Georgia Attractions of Historical Interest." The Marine Corps Jr. ROTC of Newton High School presented the colors during the opening ceremonies.
